Free Online Credit Report
There a lot of myths surrounding peoples credit reports - you often hear the phrase "I've been blacklisted" or "I have a bad credit record" or "my credit file is poor". In fact none of these statements has any basis in fact.
There are no credit blacklists, and people dont have bad or poor credit.
Everyone does however, have a comprehensive credit history - whether that is positive or negative is entirely up to the company that is assessing your credit application.
Your credit history will contain all the information about all different sorts of credit agreements you have had in the past and how you have operated within those credit agreements. The details include if you make all your regular minimum payments on the account, if your late paying by how many months, what is the total amount of credit outstanding, have you ever defaulted on an agreement, do you have an county court judgements (CCJ's) against you, how many credit applications you have made in the past 12 months amoungst other information.
Each individual credit company will then asses your application based on the results of this credit report. When people have county court judgements against them or have a credit history of missing minimum payments this leads to many people failing credit companies minimum criteria hence people feeliing they are on some dreaded "blacklist" when in fact it is simply that credit companies requiremnets which dictated whether you accepted for a card loan or other finance agreement.
So the free credit check from Experian called Credit Expert allows you to check your credit history - for free, for 30 days. This can be an invaluable way to check your history before applying for a credit card, loan or mortgage. If you have been refused credit in the past the information available here can let you know exactly what information companies have used and give you an idea of what needs to be done. It will also give you the chance to correct any erroneous information on your file.
